Total responses = 509

Here is the location spread –>

location-bias

Here is the results growth –>

total

Both are much less spectacular than I had hoped for. I have to assume that a lot of people just didnt fill the survey although they got the information / they didnt forward. Also, there is a bias in the information only 0.2% of respondents said they don\’t read books, which I find highly suspect to be representative of the truth.

A HUGE thanks to all those people who filled the survey and those who forwarded it. Thanks.

This space was begging to be filled up.

Why do the survey results have only this information?
What about the actual information from the survey.
All I get from this is:
A lot of your friends(or people known to you) are from Chennai south and so are their friends. Or a general blog following bias towards South Chennai.

Ya dude, the survey results are private as they are of private interest to me –> although I have thought of making it public, just not right now — there needs to be a context. The spread of the survey is public though and of public interest. I find the growth very nice. Although, next time I try it, I’ll try it on a much larger scale.

Your points are fair. I believe the first. A larger scale will eliminate these biases. The point you make is the key. Dont approach through friends at all. Approach via the newspaper. Or do a ground level survey. Unfortunately though, every type of survey has its inherent biases.

The thing you need to look at is what do you want from the survey. What did I want? I wanted to test a hypothesis on survey growth, so that I can use it to design better surveys. Did I achieve it — yes! I wanted directional data on readership in Chennai. Did I get it — yes! Did I want pure virgin data on who reads what where in Chennai? Sure, I did. Can I live without it? Of course I can. Did I get pure virgin data — no, so?
